Church & Dwight Specialty Chemicals is proud to offer Sodium Sulfite, Food Grade, produced by our manufacturing partner, BASF SE at their Ludwigshafen facility, the world’s largest integrated chemical complex. As would be expected, the facility is compliant with 21 CFR 177 Good Manufacturing Practice and registered with US FDA as a food manufacturing facility. It is certified to the FSSC 22000 Food Safety standard, and the sodium sulfite is kosher pareve and halal. Sodium sulfite Food Grade fulfils the purity criteria for food additives set by Directive (EU) 231/2012, the Joint (FAO/WHO) Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) in the Codex Alimentarius as well as the one contained in the Food Chemical Codex. It also fulfils the specification limits of the effective edition of the European Pharmacopoeia and of the DIN EN 12124:2012 (chemicals used for treatment of water intended for human consumption). For use as a food additive, sodium sulfite Food Grade has a limited license according to E-No. 221. Sodium sulfite is used as a preservative in foods for the prevention of discoloration in dried foods, in condiments and pickled foods and for the preservation of wine and pharmaceutical preparations. In baking sodium sulfite improves processing and consistency of doughs. In industrial water treatment, sodium sulfite is added to water to reduce oxygen and chlorine to help control the corrosive tendency. In wastewater treatment, sodium sulfate is used to remove residual free and combined chlorine to protect aquatic life from toxic effects of residual chlorine. Additionally, formation of harmful chlorinated compounds in drinking water through reaction of residual chlorine with water-born organic materials can be reduced. Sodium sulfate can be easier to use than sulfur dioxide gas for chlorine control. Sodium Sulfate is available in 25 kg LDPE bags.

Sodium Metabisulfite Food Grade fulfils the purity criteria for food additives set by Directive (EU) 231/2012, the Joint (FAO/WHO) Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) in the Codex Alimentarius as well as the ones contained in the Food Chemical Codex. The purity of this product fulfils in each case the specification limits of the effective edition of the European Pharmacopoeia, the US Pharmacopeia, the British Pharmacopoeia and Japanese Pharmacopoeia as well as the DIN EN 12121 norm for chemicals used for treatment of water intended for human consumption. For use as a food additive, Sodium Metabisulfite Food Grade has a limited license according to E-No. 223. In baking, sodium metabisulfite is used in crackers to develop a soft and extensible dough and improve machinability during sheeting and rolling. It is also used for reducing mixing time requirements of flours. Sodium metabisulfite is used to reduce discoloration in fruits and to preserve wine and pharmaceutical preparations.
